Agenda for February 8th, 2010

Since many people have emailed informing the club that they have difficulty making it to the meetings, it makes sense that we can put up our agenda on the club website.
Certain things will be omitted, as they are meant to be kept secret and discussed only at the meetings. Bet you're gonna show up now!

-Diploma Dash: discussed doing the fun run as a group/team. It's $10 to register and you get a shirt.

-We're finalizing the designs for the t-shirts, just needs some touch-ups on photoshop.

-Nick needs to talk to Student Activities about putting up fliers. We also need to make some fliers. Anyone with some artistic talent is welcome to help!

-Committees for the weapons and costumes for the Gladiator Fight have been discussed.

-Movie Nights will return in two weeks, location and time details pending. Possibly watching Rome (HBO series), Jason and the Argonauts, or Spartacus. Or something completely different. We play things by ear.

-Nathalie mentioned an idea for another blog for the club and is currently working on her idea.

-We'll have a reading for Alex's play at some point.

-Sydney is in charge of our secret siege, since she's our siege-veteran.

-Alex has been voluntold to make fliers for the Student Presentations since they are starting very soon (next Wednesday?). He's also waiting on a confirmation for a room in the UC to have the presentations. Surprise, Alex! This is what happens when you don't come to meetings.

-The Classics Department needs assistance gathering quantitative data of high school students in public and private schools that take Latin. If you are interested in visiting high schools in San Antonio, please let Dr. Short or Abby know.

THIS IS IMPORTANT.

If you attend no other classics meetings, I guarantee that you'll want to be at the one next Monday, Feb. 15th.
Hint: there's food, and it's delicious.

New Semester!

Welcome back fellow Classical Cohors, I hope you had an enjoyable break from school. Now that we're all falling back into the educational groove, we need to start organizing and meeting again so the activities of the Spring semester can commence. On the side of the page you'll see a poll that asks which time would be the absolute BEST for you to hold meetings. If you have other times that are equally wonderful, please leave a comment on this post informing us of those times as well. You can select multiple options on the poll, but please pick only your top three.

Remember, if you don't vote, it will be very difficult to start meeting again!

Larry

Dr. Short has written an eloquent address to the students and faculty of the Classics department, which I shall place here, for it states everything that we feel concerning the loss of a friend.

"It is with great regret and sadness that I am writing today to inform you of the death of Larry Fausnacht, who died suddenly in his sleep on Saturday, November 28th, 2009. As many of you know, Larry was a passionate and devoted student of the Classics and History here at UTSA, and a dear friend to many of us. His enthusiasm, wit and kindness will be sorely missed by those who knew him, and the loss of his thoughtful, generous involvement in the classics program on campus will be felt even by those who did not."

BestFest

BestFest is almost here! Friday, October 30th we will be inviting students and faculty to take photos with their favorite gods. We hope to take a group picture so try and come by!

In other news, Abby will be hosting a Halloween party on October 31st for all club members to attend if they wish. There will be food. Free food. And games! And movies! And stuff. We'll play it by ear.

Dollpollo?

Our first activity open to everybody on the internet is here! Say hello to Dollpollo, or our dress-up Apollo. You can do everything but remove that leaf! Have fun with him, cut him out, put him on your desk in whatever garb you choose. With this little god on your desk, who knows what dreams can come true!
